This weekend’s racing coincided with the start of the Lunar New Year

This weekend’s racing coincided with the start of the Lunar New Year. As you might have seen, this year is the Year of the Rat.

The Rat comes first in the order of Chinese Zodiac animals and the reason for that has some running parallels.

Apparently, the ancient Jade Emperor decreed that the order of the animals would be decided by the position in which they arrived at his party. The Rat tricked the Ox into giving him a ride and then, just as they arrived at the finish line, the Rat jumped down and landed ahead of the Ox, coming first.

Any comparisons with the racing tactics of fellow Club members are yours to make!

First at our results report party is Rother Valley Parkrun, where, among the 500+ field, Paddy Abbott secured a Parkrun PB of 24:03, Lindsay Baker registered a 26:45 finish and Lynn Hazelton a 32:30.

Down at Long Eaton Parkrun, John Sanderson ran in a Club Gold Standard finish time of 17:24 whilst finishing 3rd overall. At the same event, Kerry Anderson finished in 24:16.

To Sunday and starting with the challenging 9.6 miles and 1,800 feet of ascent of the Tigger Tor Fell Race. First home for the Club was Jordan Street in 1:17:54 for 8th place overall. Philip Morris came in 15th on 1:18:53 and Richard Hind landed a 1:46:15.

Meanwhile, up near Holmfirth, Jim McKintosh was tackling the Meltham AC Tough 10K, which duly lived up to its name and Jim finished in 1:05:22.

Finally, at the Clumber Trust 10K, Paddy Abbott ran in a new PB with his time of 52:33.

Well done all!
