Guiness World Record Attempt at Half Marathon

Great news that the Clowne Half Marathon is going to play host to an Official World Record attempt on 24 November.
Let’s give the attempt the support it deserves!

Clowne Road Runners are thrilled to announce that an official attempt at a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORD will take place at our event on November 24th!!

David Smith always wanted to be a record breaker from a young age and has accomplished this and then some….he currently holds 35 World Records ranging from running the fastest marathon in flip flops, dressed as a jester, dressed as a snowman to name but a few. You may also recognise David as his running alter ego Scooby Doo!

In 2014 David and his family suffered the devastation of his own grandson, Theo, being stillborn and started to raise money for the charity SANDS wearing Theo’s name on his back, realising there were many other similar Angels David started to carry them on his back as well (in return for a small donation to SANDS) and takes them to all the running, cycling and swimming events he does each year.

David currently carries 75 Angels and in November he will attempt to break the record for the most T-shirts worn during a half marathon, this needs to be completed in under 3 hours! He currently holds the World Marathon Record at 51 T-shirts (see pic – I don’t think we’ll miss him on race day)!

So far David has raised over a phenomenal £100 000 for this amazing charity, for more information you can click on the links below.
