For anyone who stayed awake long enough on Saturday night, the achievement of the weekend must go to Callum Hawkins for his 4th place finish in the World Championships Marathon in Doha. Most of us can but dream of cutting through the field in the last quarter of a marathon like he did – only to be denied a medal by being out-sprinted in the final run-in.
Back to CRR, and with a few honourable exceptions, it seems to have been largely the Vet categories out there this week!
First, Steve Battle has been over in the Czech Republic where he finished the Prague 10K in 43:22, coming 37th out of a team of 135 railway employees.
It was October Parkrun Competition time on Saturday and so, as usual, there were some strong performances to report.
Starting at Poolsbrook, Matt Martin was 1st placed finisher in 17:12 – a course PB by 22 seconds. Andrea Walker also scored a course PB with her 24:07 and Chris Lindley achieved a distance PB with his 23:18 as did Marie Hewitt with her 30:40 finish.
At Rother Valley, Bridget Hemstock secured her Silver Club Standard with a 24:56 PB
Over in Bakewell, Paul Taylor finished in 21:41 and Craig Lockett scored a Bronze Club Standard with his 23:14 PB .
At Clumber, Steve Battle finished 1st in Age category and 11th overall with his 20:18.
To the No Walk in the Park, where new member John Sanderson ran a season’s best of 18:06.
Meanwhile, at the Curbar Commotion 10.2 mile Fell Race, Richard Hind finished in a palindromic 1:30:31.
At a muddy and slippery Sheffield Ten 10 Ten, Giles Searby finished in 55:07 and Megan Crofts in 1:11:22.
Finally, leaping the puddles at the Goosefair Gallop 10K, Louise Lowe finished in 52:44, Bridget Hemstock in a Bronze Club Standard winning time of 55:12 and Lynn Hazelton in 1:26:33.
