Welcome to the website. I'm guessing that you have landed here as you have an interest in
running and live in North East Derbyshire. Hopefully you will find the information you are after
on the website, if not, then please feel free to email me.
Our aim is to make everyone feel welcome to our club – whether you are a seasoned pro or
maybe an enthusiastic beginner (which we all were once). Indeed our members consist of
runners of all standards and ages - please don't delay coming along to see us because you
believe club runners are all elite athletes (I’m not – see the picture!). In terms of ages,
our members cover the age range from 16 right up to 80. We have a sizeable contingent of
lady runners as well.
Why not come down to one of our sessions, these consist of:
o Thursday night training sessions - we meet at 7pm outside Clowne Community Centre
(Recreation Close, S43 4PL). Sessions are varied and there is normally the option of either a
challenging session designed to build up speed, or an easy run. All sessions are led by a
qualified coach including Andy Ward, one of Derbyshire’s top cross country and fell
runners.
o Sunday morning long runs – 10/12 mile runs (up to 2 hours) designed to build endurance,
particularly if you are looking to run a half-marathon.
o Beginners sessions on a Tuesday night, starting at the bottom of Chesterfield Road,
Barlborough. See separate link.
In addition, we hold regular meetings on the 1st Friday of each month at Clowne Community
Centre (7pm for 7.30pm start). This is an opportunity to find out more about how the club
runs, have a social chat and ask questions.
You might also be amazed at how many active members we have who like to get involved,
but do not run! Many of us also enjoy the odd pint of beer - the Community Centre always
has some well-kept real ale on at very reasonable prices!
We try to be a very social club and have various club outings throughout the year. There are
running weekends away, race meetings, social evenings with other clubs, our Christmas party /
presentation evening, a club handicap race and a series of cross country races every
January/February against other local clubs.
If you would like more information before coming along to see us, or would like to make sure
there will be someone available to ask for when you come down, please email me and we can
arrange something.
Hope to meet you soon
